A traditional Japanese festival celebrating the annual meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair). Celebrated on July 7th in most regions, but in some areas on August 7th due to the lunar calendar. One of the five seasonal festivals (五節句).
