traditional Japanese conical hat (sandogasa)
A deep, wide-brimmed conical hat made of bamboo or sedge, historically worn by travelers and commoners in the Edo period. The name literally means 'three-degree hat', possibly referring to its shape or the way it was worn.

Named for the 三度飛脚, couriers who regularly traveled between Edo and Osaka, traditionally three times a month, and wore this type of hat.
