three obediences (of a woman: to father, husband, and son)
A historical Confucian/Buddhist concept describing a woman's duty to obey her father before marriage, her husband after marriage, and her son in old age. Rare in modern conversation; encountered mainly in historical or cultural contexts.
The teaching of the three obediences clearly reflects the Confucian view of women.
