上じょう淫いん

romantic involvement with a higher-class person (esp. of a man)

Archaic term for a relationship where a person, especially a man, becomes romantically involved with someone of higher social status. Not used in modern Japanese.

• 古こ典てん文ぶん学がくには、身み分ぶん違ちがいの恋こいとして上じょう淫いんが描えがかれることがある。

  In classical literature, 上淫 is sometimes depicted as a love affair across class boundaries.
