Used when someone is caught unprepared or when an unexpected action is taken. Often in the form 不意を突かれる (to be taken by surprise).

• 敵てきの不ふ意いを突ついて攻こう撃げきした。

  We attacked, taking the enemy by surprise.

• その質しつ問もんには不ふ意いを突つかれた。

  I was caught off guard by that question.
