Nakasendō; Nakasendo highway
One of the five major Edo-period highways connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto, running through the central mountains. Often contrasted with the coastal Tōkaidō.

Old townscapes still remain in the post towns along the Nakasendō.
