Rare literary expression used when hoping for something to occur, often with a sense of anticipation or wishful thinking. Not used in everyday conversation.

• 春はるよ、事ことあれかしと待まちわびる。

  I wait impatiently for spring, hoping it will come any time now.

• 彼かれは事ことあれかしと吉きっ報ぽうを待まっていた。

  He was waiting for good news, hoping it would arrive any moment.
