Archaic timekeeping term from the old Chinese-influenced watch system; not used in modern Japanese outside historical or literary contexts.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だいの時じ刻こく制せい度どでは、二に更こうは夜よるの二に番ばん目めの刻こく限げんにあたる。

  In the Edo-period time system, 二更 corresponded to the second watch of the night.
