to resign; to step down

Archaic humble expression for resigning from a position, especially in a formal or official context. In modern Japanese, 辞任する or 辞職する are used instead.

• 老ろう臣しんは主しゅ君くんに仕しを致いたすことを願ねがい出でた。

  The old retainer requested to resign from his service to his lord.

• 「仕しを致いたす」は、現げん代だいではほとんど使つかわれない古ふるい言いい回まわしです。

  'Shi o itasu' is an old expression that is hardly used today.
