Hakodate (city in Hokkaido)
A city in southern Hokkaido, known for its morning market and night view from Mount Hakodate.
Hakodate is in the south of Hokkaido.
Originally written 箱館. The name is traditionally associated with a box-shaped fortified residence built in the fifteenth century; the spelling was changed to 函館 in the nineteenth century.
