bremsstrahlung; braking radiation
Technical physics term for electromagnetic radiation produced when a charged particle, especially an electron, is decelerated by the electric field of an atomic nucleus. Also known as braking radiation. Cross-referenced with 制動放射, which is a synonym.

In an X-ray tube, bremsstrahlung is produced when high-speed electrons hit the target.

Synonym for 制動輻射. Both mean bremsstrahlung, but 制動放射 uses the more common character 放 (release) instead of 輻 (spoke/radiation). 制動放射 is likely more frequent in modern texts.
The term is a direct calque from German 'Bremsstrahlung' (braking radiation). 制動 (braking) + 輻射 (radiation). The character 輻 originally means 'spokes of a wheel', but here it is used in the sense of 'radiating' as in 輻射 (radiation).
