Historical term referring to the tachibana (Citrus tachibana) tree planted to the west of the southern stairs of the Shishinden (紫宸殿) in the Heian Palace. Often mentioned alongside 左近の桜 (the cherry tree on the east side).
A tachibana tree was planted to the west of the southern stairs of the Shishinden.
The sakura on the left and the tachibana on the right were symbolic plantings at the ceremonial site of the Heian Palace.
