In mahjong, the action of claiming a discarded tile to complete a sequence (chow). Compare 碰 (ポン, pung) and 槓 (カン, kong).

He declared a chow using the tile discarded by the player to his left.
チーできる牌が来たけど、見逃した。
A tile I could chow came, but I let it pass.
Katakana spelling is standard for this mahjong term; the kanji 吃 is rarely used.
Kanji form is attested but uncommon in practice; learners will almost always encounter チー.
