Rare formal or literary term for the combined act of eating and drinking. In modern Japanese, 飲食 (いんしょく) is the standard word.

• 古ふるい文ぶん献けんには「喫きつ飲いん」という表ひょう現げんが見みられるが、現げん代だいではほとんど使つかわれない。

  The expression 喫飲 can be found in old documents, but it is hardly used today.
