elementary school (Japan, 1941-1947)
Historical term for the national elementary schools established under the National School Ordinance during World War II, replacing 尋常小学校 and later replaced by 小学校 after the war.
During the war, military drills were also conducted at national elementary schools.
In 1941, ordinary elementary schools were renamed national elementary schools.
