Used for planning the arrangement of a garden, building, or ground plan. Often refers to the process of marking out positions on the ground.
After laying out the garden, we placed the plants.

Go (囲碁) term: securing or expanding one's area on the board.
There is also a strategy of prioritizing territory-taking in the opening.
training in one's own stable
Sumo term: practice held within a wrestler's own stable, as opposed to joint training with other stables.
Today is a day for training in our own stable, not visiting another.

Police abbreviation of 地取り捜査 (じどりそうさ): investigative work such as interviewing neighbors and searching the area.
