lusterleaf holly; Ilex latifolia
A species of holly native to East Asia; the leaves are sometimes used for tea (苦丁茶).
The leaves of the lusterleaf holly are large and thick.
In ancient India, scriptures were copied onto pattra leaves.
The reading たらよう is derived from Sanskrit 'tāla' (palmyra palm) via Chinese; the kanji 多羅葉 are ateji. The botanical sense is an extension of the same term.
