A set phrase from Buddhist sutras, traditionally placed at the beginning to indicate the words were heard directly from the Buddha. Used as a yojijukugo in Japanese.
経典の冒頭には「如是我聞」と記されている。
At the beginning of the sutra, it is written, 'Thus I have heard.'
From the Chinese translation of the Sanskrit phrase 'evaṃ mayā śrutam', meaning 'thus have I heard'. The Japanese reading is the on'yomi of the characters.
