Historical term for a steward managing the household affairs of nobles of the third rank and above, from the middle of the Heian period onward.

• 平へい安あん時じ代だい中ちゅう期き以い降こう、三さん位み以い上じょうの貴き族ぞくの家いえには家司けいしが置おかれた。

  From the mid-Heian period, stewards were appointed in the households of nobles of the third rank and above.
