A low-growing evergreen perennial native to Japan, often used as ground cover in shady gardens.
I planted Japanese pachysandra in the shady part of the garden.
Kanji form is rare and mainly used in botanical contexts; the reading ふうきぐさ is also possible but less common.
The name フッキソウ (富貴草) literally means 'wealth and honor grass', likely from its evergreen, lush appearance. The reading ふっきそう is a sound shift from ふうきぐさ.
