A classical Chinese poetic form with strict tonal and structural rules, consisting of eight lines of five or seven characters. Used in Japanese contexts when discussing Chinese poetry.

From Chinese 律詩 (lǜshī), literally 'regulated poem'. The term entered Japanese as a loanword referring to the same poetic form.
