恋こう

to love; to yearn for

Archaic or poetic verb for deep longing or love, often with a classical flavor. In modern Japanese, 恋する or 愛する are the usual equivalents.

• 古ふるい和わ歌かには「君きみを恋こう」という表ひょう現げんがよく見みられる。

  In old waka poems, the expression 'to long for you' is often seen.

• 彼かの女じょは遠とおく離はなれた故こ郷きょうを恋こう気き持もちを歌うたにした。

  She put her feelings of yearning for her distant hometown into a song.
