Used to emphasize that after a long process or series of events, something (often negative) happens. Stronger than 挙句 alone, and frequently used with a negative outcome. Typically appears as ~に.
長い議論の挙句の果てに、結局何も決まらなかった。
After a long discussion, in the end nothing was decided.
彼はさんざん迷った挙句の果てに、一番高い車を買った。
After all that hesitation, he ended up buying the most expensive car.
