Historical term for an order issued by the imperial court or government. Used in pre-modern contexts; in modern Japanese, 勅命 (ちょくめい) is more common for imperial commands, and 政府命令 (せいふめいれい) for government orders.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だい、朝ちょう命めいによって大だい名みょうの配はい置ち換がえが行おこなわれた。

  In the Edo period, daimyo were reassigned by imperial command.

• 朝ちょう命めいに背そむくことは、当とう時じは重じゅう罪ざいとされた。
