face side of a board; bark side
Woodworking term for the side of a board that was closer to the bark; often used as the visible face. Contrasts with 木裏 (きうら), the pith side.

Compound of 木 (き, 'wood') and 表 (おもて, 'front, surface'). The reading きおもて is a straightforward combination.
