Amida Buddha's descent to welcome the dying
A Pure Land Buddhist term for Amida Buddha appearing at the moment of death to escort the faithful to the Western Paradise. Often used in the phrase 来迎を遂げる.
At the time of death, one prays for the coming of Amida Buddha.
In raigō paintings, Amida Buddha is depicted accompanied by bodhisattvas.
