Amida Buddha's descent to welcome the dying

A Pure Land Buddhist term for Amida Buddha appearing at the moment of death to escort the faithful to the Western Paradise. Often used in the phrase 来迎を遂げる.

• 臨りん終じゅうの際さいに阿あ弥み陀だ如にょ来らいの来迎らいごうを願ねがう。

  At the time of death, one prays for the coming of Amida Buddha.

• 来迎図らいごうずには、菩ぼ薩さつたちを従したがえた阿あ弥み陀だ如にょ来らいが描えがかれる。

  In raigō paintings, Amida Buddha is depicted accompanied by bodhisattvas.
