Expresses concern or anxiety about something. Often used with ～を案ずる or ～と案ずる. This is the most common meaning.

• 母ははは私わたしの将しょう来らいを案あんじている。

  My mother is worried about my future.

• 彼かれの安あん否ぴを案あんじて、連れん絡らくを待まった。

  Worried about his safety, I waited for him to contact me.

Used when carefully considering or working out a plan, idea, or solution. More formal than 考える. Often appears in set phrases like 一計を案ずる (devise a plan).

• 新あたらしい事じ業ぎょう計けい画かくを案あんじているところです。

• 彼かれは一いっ計けいを案あんじて、問もん題だいを解かい決けつした。

  He devised a plan and solved the problem.

• 事じ件けんの真しん相そうを案あんずるために、さらに調ちょう査さが必ひつ要ようだ。

Rare, archaic usage restricted to the kanji 按ずる. Refers to physical actions like stroking, rubbing, or grasping. Not used in modern Japanese outside of historical or literary contexts.

• 古ふるい文ぶん献けんでは、按あんずるが刀かたなの柄つかを握にぎる意い味みで使つかわれる。

  In old texts, 按ずる is used to mean grasping the hilt of a sword.
