In classical texts, it was used as 炳として, expressing a state of being bright or clear.
Obsolete kanji form; the word is not in modern use. The reading へい is the only reading given.
The Chinese character 炳 is phono-semantic, combining 火 “fire” with 丙 as its phonetic element. It entered Japanese with the Sino-Japanese reading へい and meanings such as “bright” and “evident.”
