Literary adverb used in formal or written contexts to refer to a point in the past from which something has continued or changed. In modern Japanese, それ以来 or その後 are more common.

• 彼かれは十じゅう年ねん前まえに故こ郷きょうを離はなれ、爾じ来らい一いち度ども帰かえっていない。

  He left his hometown ten years ago and has not returned since.

• その事じ件けんの後あと、爾じ来らい彼かの女じょの態たい度どは変かわった。

  After that incident, her attitude changed from then on.
