direct passive
Linguistics term for a passive construction where the subject is directly affected by the action, as opposed to an indirect passive.
In Japanese direct passive, the object of the action becomes the subject, as in 'I was praised by the teacher.'
間接受身 (indirect passive) expresses that the subject is indirectly affected by an action, often with a nuance of inconvenience, while 直接受身 simply states that the subject undergoes the action.
