default entity
Computing term for a predefined entity used when no explicit entity is specified, such as in XML or SGML.
In XML, character references defined as default entities are sometimes used.
Compound of 省略 (shōryaku, 'omission') + 時 (ji, 'time') + 実体 (jittai, 'entity'), literally 'entity at time of omission'. The term is a technical calque from computing.
