Oriental melon; Makuwa melon
A type of melon (Cucumis melo var. Makuwa) traditionally grown in East Asia, often eaten as a summer fruit.

In summer, my grandmother sends me Makuwa melons.
Kanji spelling is uncommon; learners will mostly encounter the katakana form.
The name マクワウリ is said to come from the village of Makuwa (真桑) in Gifu Prefecture, where the melon was historically cultivated.
