Buddhist term contrasting the present, suffering-filled world with the Pure Land (浄土). Used in religious or philosophical contexts.

• 浄じょう土ど宗しゅうでは、穢え土どを離はなれて極ごく楽らく浄じょう土どに往おう生じょうすることを願ねがう。

  In Jōdo-shū, one aspires to leave this impure world and be reborn in the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Archaic euphemistic use, now extremely rare. The modern word is 大便 or 糞.

• 古ふるい文ぶん献けんでは、穢え土どが排はい泄せつ物ぶつを婉えん曲きょくに指さすことがある。

  In old texts, 穢土 can euphemistically refer to excrement.
