flute-player seating area (noh)
Technical noh term: the area behind upstage left where the flute player sits. Not used in everyday Japanese.
能舞台では、笛座は脇正面から見て奥の左手に位置する。
On the noh stage, the flute-player seating area is located at the back left as seen from the waki-shōmen.
Compound of 笛 (fue, 'flute') and 座 (za, 'seat' or 'sitting area'). The reading ふえざ is a straightforward combination with rendaku voicing of 座.
