Miquel's mazus; Mazus miquelii
A small flowering plant native to East Asia, often found in moist, shady places. The name literally means 'purple heron moss'.
Mazus miquelii produces small purple flowers in spring.
I found some Mazus miquelii in the wetland.
Kanji spelling is rare and mainly used in botanical contexts; the plant is usually written in kana.
Compound of 紫, “purple,” and サギゴケ, whose flowers were likened to a heron and whose low, spreading growth resembles moss.
