A very thin sheet of wood, traditionally used for wrapping food or as a writing surface. Often associated with traditional crafts and packaging.
Wrapping rice balls in a wood sheet absorbs excess moisture.
Originally 経木 referred to thin wooden strips used for copying Buddhist sutras, from 経 “sutra” and 木 “wood.” The name was later applied to thin sheets of wood more generally.
