bellyband; money belt
A cloth band worn around the waist, traditionally used to carry money or valuables. Often associated with travelers or older styles of dress.

Compound of 胴 (どう, 'torso') and 巻き (まき, 'wrapping'), literally 'torso wrap'. The exact historical origin is uncertain, but it refers to a cloth wrapped around the midsection.
