noun
active transport
Biology term for the movement of molecules across a cell membrane against a concentration gradient, requiring energy. Often contrasted with 受動輸送 (passive transport).
See also: 受動輸送
細胞膜を介した能動輸送にはATPが必要だ。
Active transport across the cell membrane requires ATP.
受動輸送 is passive transport, which does not require energy and moves substances along the concentration gradient, while 能動輸送 requires energy to move substances against the gradient.
Compound of 能動 (active, voluntary) and 輸送 (transport). The term is a direct translation of the English 'active transport' used in biology.
