downstage left pillar (noh stage)
Technical term in noh theater: the pillar near which the supporting actor (waki) introduces himself. Not used in everyday contexts.

Architectural term for the vertical side piece of a doorframe. Rare in general use; more commonly referred to as 戸当たり or 枠.
The doorjambs of the old building were elaborately carved.
Compound of 脇 (waki, 'side') and 柱 (hashira, 'pillar'). The reading hashira becomes bashira due to rendaku.
