dried taro stem
A food ingredient made by drying the stem of the taro plant (satoimo). Often rehydrated and used in simmered dishes or salads. Distinct from fresh taro stem (ずいき).

After rehydrating the dried taro stem in water, I use it in simmered dishes.
In this region, stir-fried dried taro stem is commonly eaten.
Common mixed kanji-kana spelling. The reading いもがら is standard.
Alternate kanji spelling using 幹 (stem). Less common than 芋がら.
Rare kanji spelling; also read ずいき for a fresh taro stem. The reading いもがら is possible but uncommon for this form.
