tepal
Botanical term for a segment of the perianth that is not clearly differentiated into a sepal or petal, as in tulips or lilies.
In tulips, the tepals are not easily distinguishable as sepals or petals.
Compound of 花被 (かひ, 'perianth') + 片 (へん, 'piece, segment'). The term is a modern botanical coinage.
