Semi-cursive script can be written faster than block script.
楷書 and 行書 are both standard kanji script styles, but 楷書 is written with every stroke separate and non-cursive while 行書 is semi-cursive with strokes flowing into one another.
行書 is a semi-cursive style partway between 楷書 and 草書, and learners often mix it up with 草書 because both look flowing, though 草書 abbreviates strokes far more.
