Heian-period coming-of-age ceremony for girls
Historical term for a rite in which a girl first wore adult clothing, typically around age 12–14. Often associated with the nobility.

From 裳 (mo, 'skirt' or 'lower garment') and 着 (gi, 'wearing'). The exact historical derivation is uncertain, but the term refers to the ritual donning of adult clothing.
