House of Peers (Japan, Meiji constitution)

Refers specifically to the upper house of the UK Parliament.
The UK House of Lords was once dominated by hereditary peers.
The current upper house of the Japanese Diet (House of Councillors), which replaced the 貴族院 after WWII.
Compound of 貴族 (nobility) and 院 (institution, house). The term was used for the Japanese House of Peers (1890–1947) and is still used to refer to the UK House of Lords.
