Archaic and highly formal verb for dying, used mainly in classical literature or historical contexts. In modern Japanese, it is almost never used in everyday speech; 亡くなる or 死ぬ are the standard equivalents.

• 古こ典てん文ぶん学がくでは、貴き人じんがみまかる場ば面めんがよく描えがかれる。

  In classical literature, scenes where a noble person passes away are often depicted.

• 「みまかる」は、現げん代だいではほとんど使つかわれない古ふるい言いい方かただ。

  みまかる is an old expression that is hardly used today.
