Linguistic term for the phenomenon where an unvoiced consonant becomes voiced when it is the initial consonant of the non-initial part of a compound or prefixed word in Japanese.

• 「はな（花はな）」と「ひ（火ひ）」が合あわさると「はなび（花はな火び）」になるのは連れん濁だくの例れいです。

  When はな (flower) and ひ (fire) combine to become はなび (fireworks), that is an example of rendaku.

• 連れん濁だくが起おこる条じょう件けんは複ふく雑ざつで、完かん全ぜんには解かい明めいされていません。

  The conditions under which rendaku occurs are complex and not fully understood.
