Attaches to the masu-stem of a verb to mean missing an opportunity or failing to do something, often with a nuance of regret. The form っぱぐれる is a colloquial emphatic variant.
寝坊して、電車に乗りはぐれた。
I overslept and missed the train.
言い出しっぱぐれて、結局何も言えなかった。
I missed the chance to speak up and ended up saying nothing.
