Used when someone becomes separated from a group or loses track of companions, often unintentionally.

• 人ひと混ごみで友とも達だちとはぐれてしまった。

  I got separated from my friend in the crowd.

• 山やま道みちで一いっ行こうからはぐれないように気きをつけて。

  Be careful not to stray from the group on the mountain trail.

Attaches to the masu-stem of a verb to mean missing an opportunity or failing to do something, often with a nuance of regret. The form っぱぐれる is a colloquial emphatic variant.

• 寝ね坊ぼうして、電でん車しゃに乗のりはぐれた。

  I overslept and missed the train.

• 言いい出だしっぱぐれて、結けっ局きょく何なにも言いえなかった。

  I missed the chance to speak up and ended up saying nothing.
