A Japanese sword with an extra-long hilt, roughly equal in length to the blade, used primarily in the medieval period.
The nagamaki is a weapon used during the Nanboku-chō period.
I saw a real nagamaki at the museum.
Compound of 長 (naga, 'long') + 巻 (maki, 'winding'), referring to the long wrapped hilt. The exact historical derivation is uncertain.
