Archaic term for a woman's father-in-law. Not used in modern Japanese; the common modern term is 義父 (ぎふ) or 舅 (しゅうと).

• 古こ文ぶん書しょでは、嫁よめが夫おっとの父ちちを「阿あ翁おう」と呼よぶ例れいが見みられる。

  In old documents, there are examples of a bride calling her husband's father '阿翁'.
