dry surfer; wannabe surfer
Slang for someone who adopts surfer style or carries a surfboard but rarely or never actually surfs. Often used mockingly or self-deprecatingly.
He always carries a surfboard around, but he's actually just a dry surfer.
Apparently there are more and more dry surfers who wear surf-brand clothes even though they've never been to the beach.
